How to Update the Firmware on the Interface

  1. Connect the interface to a computer monitor with the VGA cable and connect a keyboard and the USB key with the firmware file(s) on it.

  2. Start the interface and hit the “Del” key while the instrument begins to boot up, it will take you to the BIOS . Go to the “Advanced” tab:

  1. Select USB configuration, the screen below will appear:

  1. Select Mass Storage Device Configuration, the following screen will appear. Select the emulation type and set to Hard Disk (usually defaults to Auto):

  1. Press “F10” and confirm to Save and Exit the BIOS. The interface should restart.

  2. Let the interface boot to the following screen, select option 2 and press Enter:

  1. You should have a command prompt available, such as C:>. Type “cd ..” followed by Enter. The prompt on the left should change to C:> Now type “dir” and Enter. The following list of files should appear:

  1. Type “cd SP8505” and Enter as above. Again, type “dir” – it will show you a list of the files in the SP8505 directory. This is where the firmware files are stored.

  2. The displayed drive should now be C:\SP8505>. Type “copy d:8505104x.rtb” where x is the version of the file. You should see something similar to below. Fresh installs should not give the “Overwrite” query.

  1. From the same prompt, type “edit run.bat”. This opens a simple text editor (as below). Edit the line of text to “.sp8505\rttboot C:\sp8505\8505104x.rtb” where once again, x is the version ID of the firmware being used.

  1. Use “Alt+F” to select the “File” option in the top left corner. Scroll down with arrow keys to Save the file, then Exit. It should go back to the original DOS screen.

  2. If the TextEditor is not available, copy the supplied “run.bat” file from the USB to the interface using “copy d:run.bat” . The operating system will respond with “Overwrite?”. Type “Y”

  3. Restart the software using the power button. Allow the interface to initialize normally, and the firmware version will be displayed in the LCD panel on the front of the unit.
