Replacing GC columns

In the GERSTEL MOSH/MOAH GC system, there are four columns installed in the GC oven to optimize performance and functionality. This includes two pre-columns, also known as retention gap columns, which concentrate large sample volume and two main columns, referred to as analytical columns, responsible for the separation and analysis of compounds.

The performance of these columns may degrade due to several factors, including the intrusion of water or oxygen during operation, contamination from the sample matrix and residues, and the formation of active sites. If procedures, such as trimming the column ends or performing a column bake-out, fail to restore the desired performance, replacement of the affected columns may be necessary to ensure the continued accuracy and reliability of the system.

This guide provides instructions for replacing either the pre-column or the main column to help maintain the overall performance and operational integrity of the system.
